aquaMeasure is a family of submersible environmental sensors with underwater and in-air wireless communications. The aquaMeasure sensors send environmental data from the farm to your phone in real time, with everything backed up to the cloud. This state of the art system delivers a user experience that is intuitive and unique, enabling continuous data to be gathered from individual underwater locations and made available online. It allows you to set threshold alerts and view historical data in plotted time series, so you can see what’s happening at each of your sites over time.

All aquaMeasure sensors measure Temperature and Tilt along with a range of different parameters including Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Salinity (SAL), Chlorophyll, Turbidity, Blue Green Algae (BGA), Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM/FDOM) and depth. The sensors are simple to install, built for the roughest of open ocean conditions, and are field-ready and factory-calibrated.

The aquaMeasure DO is a compact, wireless sensor that measures Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Temperature and Tilt underwater in real time.

DO is one of the most important indicators in the health of an aquatic ecosystem. In aquaculture, DO measurements are crucially important in optimising feeding and maintaining healthy fish. Ongoing low DO levels on a farm can significantly affect fish behaviour and lead to mortality. Conversely, supersaturated water can be highly dangerous for fish. DO levels can be affected by numerous variables e.g. size of fish, net fouling, water temperature, salinity and atmospheric pressure. Levels continuously vary throughout the day, so it is crucial that aquaculture farmers measure DO in real time. The aquaMeasure DO allows thresholds to be set so that if measurements exceed certain levels, alerts will be sent straight to your phone.

The aquaMeasure SAL is a compact, wireless sensor that measures Salinity (SAL), Temperature and Tilt underwater in real time.

Salinity is an important measure of water quality as different fish species thrive in different ranges of salinity. Abrupt changes in salinity can cause high levels of stress and increase mortality. Although changes in salinity are uncommon, sharp fluctuations can be found in areas affected by changing environmental factors, such as tidal currents and freshwater sources. At any site we recommend that salinity is measured in real time to alert farmers to these events. Knowing salinity levels can also help accurately calculate other changeable aquatic conditions, such as dissolved oxygen concentrations. The aquaMeasure SAL allows thresholds to be set so that if measurements exceed certain levels, alerts will be sent straight to your phone.

The aquaMeasure Chl is a compact, wireless sensor that measures Chlorophyll (Chl), Temperature and Tilt underwater in real time.

Measuring chlorophyll in water is important when estimating phytoplankton levels. High chlorophyll indicates that high levels of phytoplankton are present in the water, which can be a sign of possible pollutants and other environmental changes. Accurate assessments of water quality therefore depend on accurate chlorophyll measurements. The aquaMeasure Chl allows thresholds to be set so that if measurements exceed certain levels, alerts will be sent straight to your phone.

The aquaMeasure Tu is a compact, wireless sensor that measures Turbidity (Tu), Temperature and Tilt underwater in real time.

Turbidity is most often a result of suspended particles of solid matter in marine environments, so that if water is turbid it appears cloudy. Turbidity is an important measure of water quality because increased levels of turbidity raise water temperatures, which can be harmful to biomass and affect fish feeding behaviour and welfare. Turbid waters often hold less dissolved oxygen than cold waters, and sudden changes in turbidity can be a sign that a pollutant source has entered the water. Real time monitoring of turbidity helps ensure that environmental changes do not go unnoticed. The aquaMeasure Tu allows thresholds to be set so that if measurements exceed certain levels, alerts will be sent straight to your phone.

aquaMeasure Blue Green Algae (BGA)

The aquaMeasure BGA is a compact, wireless sensor that measures Blue Green Algae (BGA), Temperature and Tilt underwater in real time. The BGA sensor can be configured to detect Phycoerythrin in marine environments and Phycocyanin in freshwater environments.

Blue Green Algae are toxic bacteria that grow in both marine and freshwater ecosystems, and in large numbers lead to Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). In aquaculture, signs of BGA are not always immediately visible, and blooms can have a disastrous effect on fish mortality. The realtime monitoring of BGA in aquaculture is extremely important. The aquaMeasure BGA allows thresholds to be set so that if measurements exceed certain levels, alerts will be sent straight to your phone.

aquaMeasure Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM/FDOM)

The aquaMeasure CDOM/FDOM is a compact, wireless sensor that measures CDOM/FDOM, Temperature and Tilt underwater in real time.

Coloured dissolved organic matter (CDOM) is naturally occurring matter that consumes UV light in water. CDOM fluoresces when it absorbs light of a certain spectrum, and this is called fluorescent dissolved organic matter (FDOM). Varying levels of CDOM/FDOM can indicate nearby human inputs such as agricultural and wetland runoff, and sewage discharge. The aquaMeasure CDOM/FDOM measures in real time and allows thresholds to be set so that if measurements exceed certain levels, alerts will be sent straight to your phone.
