People

We are marine scientists, oceanographers and marine instrument technicians.  We are highly skilled, passionate about our work, collaborative by nature and easy to deal with.

Martin Stemp

Managing Director

Martin keeps the ship steady and ensures that we remain focused on the three pillars of our business: total customer service, product excellence and continuous improvement.  When not doing that, Martin actively works with our customers and collaborators on a variety of projects.

Martin studied Oceanography, Marine Biology and Environmental sciences at Bangor and Plymouth Universities, then worked in consultancy and business development for a decade, before joining RS Aqua in 2012.  Martin is a council member of the Society of Maritime Industries and recently graduated from the Goldman Sachs 10KSB High Growth Business programme at Oxford University Saïd Business School.

Terry Edwards

Technical Director

Terry and his team offer pre and post sales technical support for all of our products and services.  Terry not only runs our Datawell Service and Calibration Centre, but he can also assemble, disassemble, fix and test to failure almost anything.

Before RS Aqua, Terry spent 13 years at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton specialising in deep water sensors and moorings. Outside of the workshop Terry loves being outdoors whether that’s at a music festival, in his camper van or competing in archery competitions. We’re yet to get some archery lessons from Terry!

Ryan Mowat

Director of Fisheries and Research

Ryan leads the work we do with fisheries, aquaculture and marine ecology research groups and the industries and NGO conservation groups linked to that research. Most of this work involves using subsea acoustics to track fish and marine mammals, with a strong focus on marine conservation.

Ryan loves being on the water, or in it, and is a regular scuba diver, free diver, sailor and swimmer. He previously worked in the research fields of Literary Studies and Health & Social Sciences, and still publishes there. He also drinks a lot of craft beer.

Sam Forbes

Head of Marine & Survey Applications

Sam is our specialist in hydrography, mapping, subsea inspection, positioning and water polo.  He now focuses on our Survey and Inspection applications.

Joining us from the University of Southampton, Sam studied Oceanography and Hydrography to MSci level.  Sam’s stints in the Royal Navy, the service industry and agriculture, gave him discipline, determination and a sense of humour (in no particular order).

Kevin Kinghorn

Commercial Operations Manager

Kevin runs the ship at RS Aqua, working closely with the team to ensure we are as effective and efficient as possible. Responsible for finance, logistics and compliance, Kevin is also a member of the senior management team and passionate about operations as a support function within RS Aqua.

With a breadth of experience from micro business through to global multi-nationals, Kevin’s not afraid to get his hands dirty, both inside and outside the office.  Often found in the middle of a forest or high on the hills, Kevin loves spending time outdoors, be it on two wheels or two feet.  Always up for trying new things, he was recently spotted wobbling around on a paddle board on the Hamble!

Sean Kellie

Instrumentation Technician

Sean spent over three decades in the Royal Navy largely as a helicopter technician, maintaining equipment, systems and inventories to impeccable standards.  His work standards and multitude of electro-mechanical maintenance skills are put to good use in our workshop testing, servicing and reassembling all types of subsea equipment that our wonderful customers have broken.

Chloe Brine

Marketing Coordinator

Chloe heads up all our marketing efforts with her main goal being to showcase RS Aqua’s capabilities and successes to national and international markets. Chloe has a keen understanding of our marine science equipment portfolio, whilst also planning and executing all events and conferences that RS Aqua attend. Chloe has built some great relationships with our partners and marine science users.

Chloe joined us straight from university having studied marketing and advertising at the University of Chester. Outside of RS Aqua, Chloe loves snorkelling and underwater photography. She would also love to try her hand at paddleboarding!

Louise Horn

Logistics and Compliance Coordinator

Louise is our logistics and compliance expert keeping us in check wherever she can. Louise has a vast career in front-line operations where the customer is the focal point of the business giving her understanding of the importance of the customer journey. Louise is very used to working extremely well under pressure, so she likes her job going at a million knots.

Outside of the office, Louise loves to run with the dog and be outdoors with her children, often going camping with her family. Louise likes to bring good vibes to the office this often involves bringing snacks and goodies. And who are we to object?!

Rachel Richards

Assistant Accountant

Rachel has worked in accounts for 15 years and has joined to thoroughly whip us all into ship shape with her need for organisation. Rachel trained in accountancy and taxation at evening classes while working full time.

Always up for a laugh and absolutely loves music, she is a regular at local festivals. Rachel completed the London marathon, but much prefers spending her time trying different cuisines often described as a ‘foodie’. Rachel has not quite gained her sea legs yet, her idea of exploring the oceans is on a cruise ship.

Laura Hind

Customer Service Administrator

Laura is the first point of contact for our existing customers, doing all it takes to ensure our orders are completed as efficiently as possible. Coming to us from a 2-year stint working in pet insurance, Laura is a people person who will do everything she can to ensure the customer’s journey is easy and hassle-free.

Laura studied Biological Sciences at Plymouth University, which fueled her passion for the environment and conservation. She loves animals and nature, with her next life goal being to go on safari. She enjoys attending music festivals and going on weekends away, but is just as happy to spend the whole weekend watching Netflix under a blanket!

Phoebe Chadwick

Marine Scientist

Phoebe is one of our Marine Science Graduates and is excited to get stuck into the many projects we have ongoing at RS Aqua. Phoebe studied Marine Environmental Science at University of Portsmouth and did a masters degree in Oceanography at the NOCS. Phoebe loved volunteering at Co-coast where she surveyed the shores for different seaweed species, limpets and lugworms. If she isn’t on the shore she’s amongst the waves frequently enjoying paddle boarding, surfing and scuba diving.

Phoebe is passionate about the marine environment and often organises beach cleans on her own accord, so we’re fully expecting her to lead RS Aqua in our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and continue our marina clean-up mission. Phoebe is a huge music fan and loves attending festivals. She’s even been to Glastonbury, twice. Outside of work you’ll catch Phoebe at a gig with a beer in hand.

Nathan Hunt

Marine Scientist

Nathan is one of our Marine Science Graduates and is highly interested in acoustic telemetry and underwater acoustics. His previous education includes Marine Vertebrate Zoology BSc (Hons) and a postgraduate degree in MSc Marine Environmental Protection at Bangor University. Whilst studying for his degrees, Nathan volunteered and worked in Greece for Archelon – The Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece. Shortly after finishing his studies he jetted off again, but this time to the Maldives where he completed 2 years as a marine biologist, guiding snorkelling tours, assisting with a coral regrowth program and cleaning up marine debris.

Outside the office Nathan is probably our most active member of the team, often enjoying mountain biking and running. Nathan loves being on the water, or in it, regularly freediving & SCUBA diving, using this as the perfect opportunity to pursue his biggest hobby – underwater photography. Nathan has also offered to demonstrate his skills on a paddleboard after training as an instructor in the Maldives, we can’t wait for our lessons!
